Happy New Year and BFL Update 1-5-2023

Post by marcusblade »

Hi All,

Along with Karen "AKA KIP" Tardich and Marc "Marcus Blade" Matlen, we want to wish all in the BFL Nation a Happy New Year! At least two of the three of us are 2022 BFL winners, with KIP in title contention after a league-high three weekly wins and Blade picking up two wins this year. Commish ATOM? Not so much!

All apologies that the first communication with all of you since last September's call for entries follows Monday night's game in Cincinnati. The good news is that the fallen player, Damar Hamlin, is showing "remarkable improvement" and everyone in the sporting world hopes and prays it continues.

As a league with a Detroit foundation, many of us remember Lions linebacker Reggie Brown going down after a hit in a late season 2007 game with the Jets. We were all there to see Barry crack 2,000 and instead you could hear a pin drop in the Silverdome as the scene unfolded.

Brown was paralyzed, unconscious, couldn't breathe and was intubated and given CPR on the field and taken away in an ambulance... only to ultimately recover from his spinal injury to live a largely normal life out of football. Cardiac arrest is a serious matter, but hopefully Hamlin is on a similar and miraculous road to recovery.

We have had several inquiries as to how the BFL scoring will be handled for Week 17 with the Bengals/Bills game currently not rescheduled and Week 18 closing out the season with no schedule changes. The BFL site originally treated the game as it would a tie - with no points awarded - and now has removed the game entirely from at least the site's "Show Picks" section that now includes just the 15 games that were completed in Week 17.

If this changes if and when the postponed game is completed, we will make a decision at that time on counting the game outcome for Week 17 and season-long points. The decision will take into account whether or not the site changes back to reflect and include the outstanding game. Even a wizard like Blade can't manipulate this software, and doing any "offline" and manual calculations not reflected on the online site never works out well.

Finally, we can tell you all right now that if the Bengals/Bills game is never completed, no points will be awarded for the game for Week 17 or for the season, even if a player picked the Bengals to win. As we send this email, reports are coming out that the game may indeed not be resumed.

If you are in a title fight like KIP and some other players - most of them leading ladies of the BFL (Nice job ladies!) - you may want to take the above information into account in making your Week 18 final pics of the season. Be sure to get them in well before Saturday's first game starts and good luck!

Thank you and Good Luck!

Commish ATOM
